Journal Entry 2.0

 Greetings, Aethasians!

I hope you all are doing well.  Despite any mid-semester blues, we've made it out of the winter months and spring is on the rise. It's awfully nice to look out the window and see the grass greening here in No Man's Landing.

Here are some brief updates on what's going on.

Status report on the Aetherlight:

  • Good. 😇

Status report on the blog:

  • I've got some ideas for new content, which I am excited to pursue. Additionally, if you have any suggestions or ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks to my friends who have already provided ideas!
  • Speaking of contacting, the widget on the "Chat With Us" page is once again sorted out. Now its instructions are out of date, so I will be updating them soon. Until then, please note that the chat widget developers decided to remove the join button, so the SMN Discord server is invite-only for personal Discord accounts. (That is a good thing for safety reasons.)
    • You can still use the site widget any time to chat as a guest, though!
    • Also, sometimes it will show errors, but all that means is that its server is overloaded with traffic. If you wait a few minutes and refresh the page, it should work again.

Status report on yours truly:

  • Unfortunately busy as ever but the Great Engineer is good.

Just as the weather is changing and the flowers are blooming, Aethasia is coming back to life in many ways. I think our own eternal winter is coming to an end!

See you around Aethasia, resisters. Let's get out and enjoy the sunlight. ☀️

Blog Revamp

Dear Resisters and Scarlet Man's News subscribers,

Wow, it's been a while, hasn't it? I'm so glad to be back!

Thanks to motivation from Dathmaul Crinklegadget, alias Crink, I have returned to Scarlet Man's News and plan to start a long-needed cleaning operation. Wonderfully, I finally have full control of my blog! Before, I had been operating SMN through Mrs. Rabbledash's (my mother's) Google account. All sorts of problems resulted from that arrangement, mostly involving her forgetting her passwords and accidentally locking me out! Now that is all solved and I am fully armed and ready to start posting again.

Here are some of my goals for Scarlet Man's News:
  • Announcements or even a topic on The Aetherlight forums
  • Monthly posts
  • Collaboration with Dathmaul (stay on the lookout for this! 😁)
  • Cleaning and updating of pages for Episode Three
  • Expansion of content topics (Fan art gallery? Aetherlight music player/recommendations? Let me know if there's anything you'd love to see added to Scarlet Man's News!)
  • Maybe a fun widget or some increased capabilities for the SMN Discord server
This will be a long process, and it may not really initiate for quite some time due to some real life engagements I must take care of. However, I am looking forward for the opportunity to begin the journey.
Thanks for sticking with Scarlet Man's News! I appreciate each and every one of you.

For the Scarlet Man. For Aethasia.

Aetherlight Forums Down

Hello resisters!
This just in: the forums are down, I repeat, the forums are down! Well, they aren't fully down this time; you can still log into them. Occasionally, you may experience a CloudFlare error notice, but the biggest problem is the forums' new appearance:
Everything is in a very raw form.
As a long-time forummer put it, "Why does the forums look like Hans Oddcraft threw up on it?"

Following so closely on the heels of Coop Blimppenny's retirement from Staff Moderatorship, we can only speculate as to what this change means. Is there a new Staff Mod messing with forums settings? Or has someone hacked the forums? Have the forums fallen so far out of update that they can't be used? Is SCS going to take them down? No one knows yet! But you can rest assured that this problem is not on your side; your fellow resisters are enduring the same fate.

Stay tuned!

Important: New Website Address Coming Soon!

Hey there everyone!
I have some exciting news: Scarlet Man's News will be getting a URL update soon! We will be changing from "AutomatonsNoMore.blogspot.com" to "ScarletMansNews.blogspot.com" in an effort to maintain better inter-blog consistency and to generate less confusion. The change will happen on July 7th.
I have also added a few fun things, like a custom "Page Not Found" message and a website description for search engines. The Discord chat also has some fancy new Aetherlight emojis! If you're an Aetherlight Forummer, you are already familiar with them. The codes are the same. Here's a list:

Battle Strategy II: Let's Talk Teamwork!

"No man is an island." ~  John Donne

Welcome back to Battle Strategy, a series of articles focusing on the best ways to battle automatons.

Today I'm writing about teamwork.  To some working together might be exciting, to some annoying, and to some even scary. But teamwork is truly an important aspect of many parts of life, even games!

Teamwork can make the difference between winning a battle with three victory spinners or being badly defeated. A coordinated team is pretty much assured a victory!

As we talked about in Battle Strategy I, the Aetherlight's fight mechanics include many cool effect combinations you can make boost your attacks. This principle doesn't just apply to solo battles, it also applies to co-op battles. This is where the fun happens.

Say you and your friend Taka decide to battle a Pacifier. Taka has a Water Rifle, and you have a Tesla hammer. Taka shoots first, then you follow with the Tesla. Because Taka made the automaton wet before you used your electric hammer, your hammer does twice the damage!  That makes for a combined damage value of 120 on just the first turn!

When another person joins a solo battle, the automatons' health bars automatically double to match you. If three people battle together, the automatons will have three times their normal health. That is another reason why teamwork in battles is essential. Together, you can beat the boosted automatons, but if you work alone or even against one another's attacks, you will be defeated.

Try to make your attacks boost each other as you would if you were on your own. If one player shoots a water rifle, don't use a fire weapon even if you were planning to: the damage you do will be cut down by half. Use an ice or electric weapon if you have one, then your attacks will be doubled! If you don't have a coordinating weapon, it's best to stick with a neutral "no effects" weapon.

If you use an ice weapon on a flaming automaton, the attack will be cut down by about 1/5. Oof!

That said, now we can get into the aspects of teamwork where you not only help yourself—you also help your teammates.

I. If possible, plan beforehand.
If you're meeting up with some buddies to fight those automatons, ask them what they have in their arsenal. If one person has all ice and the other all fire, you won't be able to go anywhere. In the ideal scenario, you and your friends would have complementary weapons, such as these:
Water rifle + Tesla Hammer + Dulcet Defensive Vambrace
Rocket Hammer + Oil Spitter + dynamite
Gyro hammer + Flintlock Sniper

II. Communicate.
Don't be afraid to say, "What are you going to use?" The better you communicate with others, the better coordinated your attacks will be. If no one's talking, step out and be the one to say, "I'm using [insert element]."

III. Upgrade your personal arsenal to include a variety of elements.
The more elements you have in your weapons arsenal, the more versatile you will be in a battle. For example, notice my favorite arsenal as listed in Battle Strategy I has every element except neutral: Ice pistols (Ep. 3), Water Rifle (Ep. 1), Oil Spitter (Ep. 2), Rocket Hammer (Ep. 2), Fire Stick (Ep. 3).

It's no fun to be the ice guy with a team of fire-lovers! As a last resort, be a good sport and aid your fellow fire friends with oil cans and dynamite.

May your battles go smashingly and your Aethermeters be full! Have courage, resistors... the Scarlet Man is coming soon!

Until next time,
Hanna Brassheart

Forums are Down! WHA?!

Hey resisters,

If you are an avid Aetherlight forummer, you will have already noticed this:
"Error 503 Service Unavailable. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

Do not panic! I repeat, do not panic!
I sent an email to Aetherlight support about it as soon as I saw. Within minutes, Tim Cleary a.k.a. Anakin Steamwalker responded:

If anything, this is really great news! 🎉  Maintenance is always good. We can expect great things to be coming! In fact, Coop Blimpenny might be adding something special we talked about. Hehe!

So, let's all patiently await the reopening of the forums. Until then, hang in there, resisters!

Battle Strategy I

Shoutout to Ariella Newheart and my Unknown friend who have gotten me writing again!  😂

I'll be bringing together a series of battle tips to help you in your struggles against Lucky's automatons. Starting with the first one:

COMBINATIONS

Weapon combinations are very important to the success of a battle. The better combinations you have, the quicker and easier you will be able to dispatch automatons. There are a few basic combinations you can apply:
  • Fire + Oil
  • Electricity + Water
  • Ice + Water
Starting with those, you are on the road to great damage.
My favorite solo combination is to use the Oil Spitter (Ep. 2) on the first turn of battle, followed by a special on my Rocket Hammer (Ep. 2).  That's a whopping 130 damage in one turn! You can take out a Bombardier in one hit, and the infamous Mega Drill in just four total turns!

My old forums friend, Bear Orangevest, wrote up an amazing chart on weapons and their combinations. Check it out here, it has all the information you'll ever need.*

*I'd like to note that the information in the chart is slightly old; due to a more-recent update, the Rocket Hammer does 130 damage for each special + oil. The chart also predates Episode Three's weapons.

Weapon combinations are an amazing and powerful feature, don't forget them when you go out to battle! It's always strategically smart to maintain a wide range of weapons for all types of automatons; however, it's also smart to have at least one combination available to you.

Here's what I keep in my inventory:
Ice pistols (Ep. 3), Water Rifle (Ep. 1), Oil Spitter (Ep. 2), Rocket Hammer (Ep. 2), Fire Stick (Ep. 3)

Comment below and tell me your favorite combinations! 😄
See you around Aethasia,

Hanna Brassheart

Journal Entry 1.3: Snowmoorian Travel Techniques

Hellooooooo Aethasians!

I will now be giving some advice on the Snowmoors. (The Snowmoors and all of its inhabitants are unlocked in Episode 3. You can see my review here.)

Commencing journal entry:

I was lost, alone. Running through barren wastes of nothing but impure, fog tainted snow, I struggled onward. Every once in a while I would run past a tree, with its curious purple leaves laying withered on the ground. Rings of fog encircled hills in the landscape like a topography map. Was there to be no end?!

The above entry could have been written by most people new to the Snowmoors. Eventually, you get the hang of navigating those huge areas. Here are some tips that I found essential:

  1. Run around the perimeter of the expanse. This will help you get a feel for the definite locations of things when you find them.
  2. Use your directions: north, south, east, and west. In the Aetherlight world, those become "up," "down," "right," and "left," in that order. You can always use directions and landmarks to help find something you've previously located. For instance: Start at the entrance to Jefferson's camp from the _____ Slurries. Go south until you reach the rock, then turn west and slightly south to reach the research station.
  3. If you're in dire straits and need to find something as quickly as possible, case the area. start as far north and west as you can go, then travel east and a TINY bit south. When you reach the wall on that side, turn around and go west and a TINY bit south. Skirt all obstacles, but after, turn back to the original path as if you had gone straight through the obstacle. This method will ENSURE that you don't miss anything.
  4. By now, the Postman has given you handy-dandy aerial shots of the North and South Slurries, and eventually, the Grease Pit too! You can get to them in the Postman's journal.
  5. If all else fails, you can always ask me or another kind Aethasian to help. :)
I sincerely hope this helps you in your expeditions!
Your friend and author,

Journal Entry 1.2

May 18, 2017, 6:29 p.m. . . .
Sadly, VERY sadly, it turns out the whole thing about Lukas's cat being in Evergreen Meadows was a HOAX! Thanks a lot, Aetherlight developers. >:(
However, there are still plenty of secrets to discover. I had to take a plunge, and then a hike, to find it. It's well worth finding, let me tell you. Also, TWO of the Aetherlight staff mentioned a SECOND secret area. WHERE IS IT?!? :/

The rather large release of Evergreen Meadows, outfits, a new cane weapon, new characters, and certain new capabilities outfits have has overall been a success. For some people, Evergreen Meadows has become their favorite place. I encourage all of you to visit as soon as you can. You will need to have space to accept a quest though. Inside the resistance HQ, on the job-board located there, you can pick up a quest from Alexander that unbars the gate to the E.G.M.

I need YOUR help!

That's right! I -- and a couple other players -- seem to be encountering a rather unusual glitch. Here's how to help me out:
1 Unfortunately, you need to have Episode 3 to check this! Sorry everyone!
2 Please check your inventory. If you have a Saber Tooth mask, please please please comment below.
3 If you DO NOT have the Saber Tooth mask, please go to the North Slurries and look for it. (It's in a clothing suitcase.)
Here is where two people have reported finding it:
Just follow the mine cart tracks until you see this location. The rock I am looking at SHOULD BE where the suitcase is.

I really need your help! If you find the suitcase for the first time, please take a screenshot and post it in the comments. Thank you!

Journal 1.1 ~ ....will haunt your dreams.....

Hey everyone, Hanna Brassheart, your favorite blogger/community moderator is BACK! Yep! After an amazing vacation I'm ready to start blogging again! And here's journal 1.1:

Journal,
A few days ago my friend Feather Rabbledash was dreamweaving around Aethasia when she suddenly found...
DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!!!
A golden cubeish-coggish-Aetherish thing! Upon further investigation (right-clicking or long clicking) it was determined that this golden cubeish-coggish-Aetherish thing was actually a DREAM CUBE, with the unnerving description of "The puzzle cube that will haunt your dreams until you solve it..."
DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!!!
What is this mysterious Dream Cube, where do you find it, and what does it do?

1. What is it? It is just an item. Unfortunately you can't solve it. 😉

2. Where do you find it?
The Dream Cube can be found all over Aethasia. It is not common, though, but if you look hard enough, you will find one. A location hint to start you off is:

Remember: These Dream Cubes are Aether-weaved, meaning you have to use your Dream Weaver (exclusive Great Engineer tech gained about half-way through Episode 3) to reveal it.

3. What does it do?
It is used in crafting recipes, and it will probably be used in future quests.

Hope this helps, friends!
Have fun!
Hanna

Episode 3 COMPLETE REVIEW with NO SPOILERS!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
EPISODE 3  REVIEW
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Game play:  ~~~~~~~~~~~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Length of Episode:   ~~~~~⭐️⭐️⭐️ & ½
Lessons to be learned: ~~~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot:  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Excitement factor: ~~~~~~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey everyone! Miss Brassheart here to give you the scoop on the long awaited Episode Three!
"Something is wrong in the Snowmoors. . . ."
That is the opening line in Ep. 3's trailer. The Snowmoors are melting, and if no one does anything about it, Aethasia will be flooded. Like, MASSIVE DISASTER flooded. So who's going to stop it? The Scarlet Man has plans. Like, BIG PLANS.

Game play easiness could definitely be debatable. Because you are required to have Episodes one and two, you really already know how to play and what to expect. The game is meant to be figured out by the player, which adds some challenge, but it is very satisfying to discover new features.

The length of the episode shorter than I expected. It wrapped up Season One nicely, but I expected more play-time. I've completed the main story line and it was released only two days ago. From what I've seen though, there are lots and lots of Job-Board quests to keep us all occupied!

The lessons that are taught throughout are not painfully obvious (like some games that try to teach lessons) but instead are masterfully woven into the story. It's more like learning from experience than having someone teach you. Nicely done! (This is also due to having the Bible as the main material! Haha!)

Several hair-raising moments and great plot turns add to the excitement of this episode. Of course, each episode's story is straight from the Bible. Can't go wrong there!

My favorite part about the Aetherlight is how they pick a Bible story, take the essence of the characters and the plot, and then add a steampunk-ish theme. Also, there are cleverly placed references to the Bible everywhere. #ThisIsMyFavoriteGame! #TheAetherlightRules! #GoAetherlight!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
FINAL STATEMENT
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

This is one of the most complex episodes yet! I love love love the new rooms, characters, and plans. It's TOTALLY worth buying. Just compare: A trip to Starbucks, or an amazing-incredible-super cool-Bible based adventure! 😉😄
